Accepting The Unacceptable, Parenting Autism, Epilepsy, Special Needs

Jan 15, 2019

Acceptance sounds like a poetic and silly thing to talk about. Especially when we are talking about a child we haven't lost. Sure, we all know that you should accept your child. But what if they have a disease or neurological condition and you just can't see how its fair or how to get over it. You might be thinking, sure I accept my child no matter what, it's their disability that I don't accept.

What if I told you that if you don't accept their disability, you don't accept them. Ouch, that stung a little didn't it. Sure, someones medical condition doesn't define them or their value. But its a part of their story. its a part of their contribution to this earth. If you deny that, you deny them.

In this episode, I talk about the importance of accepting your child exactly how they are and what that could mean for your life, for your child's life.

I heard a therapist say these words one time and its become my mantra.

"Sure its hard, I know its hard, but you can do it"
